About creativity

My name is Amanda Ball.

I am a musician/ author/ filmmaker/playwright/actor/photographer/poet.

As the blog title says: I live for creativity.

My mom calls me a professional juggler: I grab a project, work on it, throw it up in the air again, and grab another project. I wouldn’t trade this life for anything.

I write books under the names: Amanda Ball, Dayne Gearner, LeAnn Coston.

My band and I make music under the name Ballroom Bruisers.

My ultimate goal in music is to achieve success as a songwriter/publisher. So, to that end, I am on the lookout for artists where I can submit my songs. I do enjoy singing and live performing. It all ties in together. My YouTube page as a singer/songwriter is here.

My best friend, Don Krejsek and I make movies together.

My mother Karen Ball is an artist and produces my book covers. We co-write together. It’s unusual to see a mother/daughter writing team. We write screenplays and stageplays.Β  I don’t want to forget my Dad. He likes to stay behind the spotlight. But his help and support are invaluable. (He is also the funniest human that has ever lived!)

Living a life that is designed for creativity isn’t easy, but it’s always interesting. Thanks for letting me share my journey with you.

The band name reminds me of a funny comment I heard in Hungary 2 weeks back.
Our friend said, “I like bruising the internet”, which is a little different to “browsing the internet”.

Question: Why do use other names?

    • #17 by livingforcreativity on September 29, 2012 - 11:01 am

That’s a good question, and thanks for asking. Since I write different types of books, I decided to sort pen names by genre. If I was only a romance novelist, or only a mystery novelist, I’d use the same name. But the books are quite different, so each genre has a pen name.

      • #18 by Lela Bonchjela on October 1, 2012 - 9:25 am

That’s interesting! Please enlighten me, are those your different self-schema, or do you feel like you’re a different person when you write different genre? πŸ˜‰

      • #19 by livingforcreativity on October 1, 2012 - 11:16 am

Honestly I don’t know that I put that much thought into it. It was more of a business decision than anything. Since I write in so many genres, I figured it would be confusing if all the types of books had the same pen name–then the reader would not know what type of book he or she was getting.

      • #20 by Lela Bonchjela on October 2, 2012 - 12:47 am

        Ahhh thanks πŸ˜‰

Love the name of the band but will have to look into the books. I love the fact that you use several different names. Perhaps a different name for different types/style of book? Thanks for stopping by one of my blogs.

    • #40 by livingforcreativity on December 9, 2012 - 7:07 pm

Thank you for being so nice. Yes, the different pen names are by book genre. Dayne Gearner is standard romance novelist. LeAnn Coston is chic lit (more risque). Amanda Ball I use for mysteries (among other things–the upcoming poetry book will be under Amanda Ball). Have a great day!

Unfortunately, I’m slammed right now, and can’t participate at this time. We’ve had winter storms and power outages, and that creates work problems, and I’m just slammed this week.
Hope your guitar and studio work is going great! Stay in touch!
