Spelling and guitars

Or…guitars and spelling.

Guitar:
All of my acoustic guitars do not have pickups. So, in the recording process, I’m up to needing to lay in guitar work. I tried to mike my acoustic from the front, but with a super hot mike, it just doesn’t work. There is too much interference. So, I need an acoustic guitar with an internal pickup. I’m way too scared to have one of my precious guitars modified. Maybe I’ll get up the gumption one day, but for now, the best option I have is to go guitar shopping. So, yesterday I did. I was going to get a narrow body, flat top, cutaway (my friend JP said, “If you’re going to do this, you’ve got to get a cutaway.”) I hadn’t thought of it, but given what we are trying to do, it makes sense.

My favorite guitar is a classical. I had no intention of buying another classical. Guess what I bought?
An Alverez classical, electric/acoustic, with cutaway. This is one of those guitars that if you don’t buy it, you’ll regret it the rest of your life. Then I come home and wonder if this is what I really wanted. I need to have some fret work adjustments done. Not sure if I’ll try that myself or have it worked on. Today I’ve changed out the strings, and worked it a little bit. I’m more comfortable. But, each guitar is different, and it takes awhile to get “dialed in” on the differences and what you are doing.

Alverez classical electric/acoustic

After failing so miserably at laying down guitar work in the studio, I’ve made a resolve to play better. There is so much to learn, it’s almost daunting to begin. I’ve been looking at guitar lessons on the internet (thank goodness for so many kind people who post instruction lessons on youtube.).

But, when I’m home…I can play. When I’m at the studio, some sort of “mike fright” takes over. Very maddening. The only thing I know to do is to punch thru this, and try get more comfortable in studio.

Spelling:
I am working on editing the manuscript for the next book:  _Famous…or Not_.  (I’ll post a description soon.) I had written this manuscript in 2009. When I complete something, I have to let it sit and gel…then I come back to it with fresh eyes. So, I guess now is the time for this work to begin to see the light of day.

And what do I discover but??? I cannot spell.

That was just to page 65. Whew! Not only must I resolve to practice guitar. I need to re-learn these words, so I’ll be able to spell them.
